In villages and cities alike, many gaumatas wander abandoned, hungry, and at risk. Left without care, they face dangers from accidents and the cruel fate of slaughterhouses. In such times, gaushalas become sanctuaries of dharma, protecting these gentle beings who are revered as mothers in our tradition.
The Jiyaguda Gaushala, run by Shri Sadguru Samartha Narayana Ashram, has been serving for many years to give abandoned, aged, and injured cows a safe home. Guided by the belief that nature and humanity must co-exist in harmony, the Ashram dedicates itself fully to the service of gaumatas.
Shri Prabhu Dutt Maharaj teaches that respecting nature and protecting cows is a sacred duty. “Gaumata is the very heart of dharma. Serving them is serving the Divine,” Maharaj Ji reminds us. He urges all of us to come forward for their welfare.
The gaushala currently houses 6500+ cows, and every day they require 45,000–50,000 kgs of fodder. Volunteers bring abandoned cows from far and wide so that they can live here in peace. Each cow has access to clean water, medical care from in-house veterinarians, and a special area for those who fall ill.
The Ashram also encourages “Vegetable Seva,” where cows are lovingly fed fresh vegetables and nutritious food each week. This tradition not only sustains their health but also connects devotees to the blessings of gaumata.
The gaushala has always depended on the generosity of devotees. But after the pandemic, feeding thousands of cows daily has become a tremendous challenge. Without your help, many of these sacred beings may go hungry.
This is a humble and heartfelt appeal:
Donate fodder today, perform gaumata seva, and receive the eternal blessings that come from serving these holy beings.
